After running consecutive Dublin marathon from 2010 on with finish times around the 4 - 5hr mark Aoife Mundow decides she's going to try an ultra and embarks on a journey that is nothing less than mind blowing.
In Sept 2018 she completed the Kerry way lite 58km race, one thing led to another and she started to knock down podium after podium in Ireland's most challenging races which led to her winning the 200km Wicklow Way Ultra and breaking the Irish 24hr track record where she recorded an amazing 231.376km or 143.22 miles during the Athens International Ultramarathon Festival in Greece in January of this year.
• 2019 Wexford Running Festival 12hr event 106.6km 1st place
• 2019 June Wicklow way 127km 16hr 6 min (knocking 44min off the course record) 1st place
• 2019 June Energia 117.07 miles
• 2019 Aug Connemara 100 mile 1st place
• 2019 Sept 200km Kerry Way Ultra 1st place
• 2019 Sept Eco Trail 80km 1st place
• 2019 Dublin Marathon 3:33 smashed pb
• 2020 24hr Female Irish Record 143.22
This has to be the most impressive progression that I have seen from any athlete to go from an average 4:30 marathon over a 7 year period to become within 12 months Ireland's 24hr record holder, I’m really excited to see what else Aoife is going to bring to the world of Ultra running in the near future.
